Located in the Eastern Himalayas, Sikkim is the 2nd smallest state in India. It is a beautiful land of mountains and valleys. Because of its location, Sikkim receives a lot of rainfall and moisture - this contributes to one-third of Sikkim being covered with forests. Sikkim boasts of 28 mountain peaks, 21 glaciers, 227 high-altitude lakes, 5 hot springs and more than 100 streams, so, you can see an incredible amount of beauty in this state.
Because of the geographic highs and lows of the area, Sikkim's climate ranges from sub-tropical in the south to tundra in the north. While there are extremes, the vast majority of the area stays at a comfortable temperature that seldom surpasses 82 degrees (F). That doesn’t sound too bad to me. So we’ve got beautiful sights, pleasant temperatures, as well as lakes, waterfalls, caves, wildlife sanctuaries, and all kinds of outdoor adventures … I’m about to look up flights!
Although Sikkim is not known for a huge variety of foods, you can find amazing dishes like momos (steamed filled dumplings), and Thukpa (a Tibetan noodle soup).
You won’t feel too crowded in Sikkim - they have a population that only accounts for about .5 % of the population of India, so unlike most other areas in India, you won’t find yourself getting too claustrophobic.
Whether you hike through the Rhododendron Forest, visit snow capped mountains, lush valleys, beautiful monasteries - you can even ride a yak at Glacial Lake - you will find yourself surrounded by so much beauty and history.
